Abstract: Today’s world is currently undergoing drastic changes. As global culture becomes disordered, common sense weakens, and order loses control, individuals with vitality are swept into an unstable and unknown world. A new method for individuals to interact with the world is needed. The multiple transformations that are taking place are prominently manifested in the following aspects: individuals are closely connected to the world; the overall downturn of the global economy is intertwined with individuals’ uncertainty about their future world imagination; and the development of science and technology represented by AI poses higher demands on human-world interaction. These changes require us to focus on the core concerns of ordinary people in their daily lives and develop theories and concepts that can be applied to daily thinking. That is, how to understand the relationship between individuals and the world? How to view changes in social mentality? What actions can individuals take in a changing world? To this end, we collaborated with Dr. Liu Bo to conduct an exclusive interview with Professor Xiang Biao. By revisiting his core concept of “taking oneself as a method”, and further discussing issues such as “what is taking oneself as a method” “what kind of self can be taken as a method” “how to practice taking oneself as a method” “self as a method in the digital media era” and “self as a method and knowledge production”, this article emphasizes that “taking oneself as a method” requires “taking the world as an object”, advocating the publicization of knowledge and the organicization of research, thereby leading to a knowledge practice that reconnects the self, others, and the world, and fosters a shared concern.
