Abstract:

The term “algorithm” originally referred to a computable set of instructions with a finite number of steps or an ordered sequence. However, after being integrated with natural language processing technologies and video recommendation systems, modern algorithms have exerted a certain degree of dominance over the behavior of a vast number of internet users, giving rise to social phenomena such as “delivery riders trapped in algorithms”. From the perspective of Hegelian philosophy, modern people’s obsession with algorithms essentially represents an obsession with “bad infinity”, wherein the pursuit of abstract quantitative growth replaces the pursuit of coordinated development for society as a whole. This obsession simultaneously underestimates the non-algorithmic components of human nature, thus raising serious suspicions of objectifying humanity. To overcome algorithm obsession, it is necessary for us to institutionalize the pursuit of “true infinity” within social culture, educational, and management systems, thereby rendering the worship of immense quantities an unattractive goal.
