Abstract: Nowadays, the ubiquitous mobile Internet has subverted human’s deep-focused mode, and “electronic absent-mindedness syndrome” has become an era-specific symptom that everyone must face. Through in-depth interviews, it is found that relying on mediating means such as screen hijacking, breathing observation, and eye movement monitoring, efficiency Apps translate the originally imperceptible bodily experience of “focus-distraction” into observable digital bits, attempting to help users reshape their concentration. Only through the mediation and agency of media objects can users read their own focused actions and understand their focused states. The self referential behavioral schema evolves into a digital microstructure closely fitted to the individual, enabling the individual to correct or return to their own life rhythm. However, in this process, individuals are deeply entangled with media objects, and focused behaviors are controlled by a hybrid subject. Users have to constantly face the digital selves recorded by media objects, and the precisely encoded mode of existence makes it difficult for individuals to escape. The “sense of foreignness” of the platform gradually emerges during the embedding process, and users begin to engage in occasional negotiations and confrontations with it. As a technological prosthesis, the efficiency platform switches back and forth between the two states of “absence-interpretation-embedding” and “presence-otherness disembedding”. “Long-term intimacy and intermittent alienation” become the continuous relationship between humans and media technologies.
