Artificial Perception: New Forms of Human Cognition and New Philosophical Problems

摘要:

不同的脑机接口有不同的功能,由机到脑的脑机接口可以迈过人的天然感官使外界信号在人脑中激活出感觉知觉,这就是借助脑机接口技术而建构的“人工感知”。人工感知具有不同于身体感知的新特征,它是由技术手段和神经中枢协同构建出来的人类感知新形态,既不同于传统的感官延长,也不同于纯粹的机器感知。人工感知可用于感官失能者重拾相关的感知能力,也可服务于健全人所进行的感知增强,甚至为“超人类”寻求超越生物学限制的“超感知能力”提供支持,从而对人的未来发展具有重要意义,同时也启发了对若干认识论和价值论问题的再思考,成为哲学探究的新前沿。

Abstract:

Different brain-computer interfaces(BCI)have different functions. The BCI from machine to brain can surpass the natural senses of human beings, so that external signals can activate sensory perception in human brain. This is called “artificial perception” constructed by the BCI technology. Artificial perception has new characteristics which are different from boded perception. It is a new form of human perception constructed by technical means and nerve centers. It is not only different from traditional sensory extension, but also different from pure machine perception. Artificial perception can be used for the sensory disabled to regain the relevant perceptual ability, and it can also serve the perceptual enhancement carried out by the able bodied people, and even provide support for “superhuman” to seek “extrasensory abilities” beyond biological limitations, so as to improve human perception. The future development of artificial perception is of great significance, and it also inspires reconsideration of several epistemological and value theory issues, becoming a new frontier of philosophical inquiry.
