Abstract:

The transformation of Western cultural identity in the Mediterranean world in the Early Middle Ages reveals the initial construction of Western Civilization and the reasons behind it in the process of the birth of Western Civilization. The initial regional space of Western Civilization and the cultural identity based on it were formed in the Early Middle Ages. At that time, the inhabitants of the Western Mediterranean were in constant communication with other civilizations in the contemporaneous Mediterranean world, in the process of self-orientation, building their own cultural identity and establishing a sense of civilizational community. The other civilizations they initially referred to were not Islamic Civilizations, but Byzantine Civilizations and earlier classical civilizations.
