Abstract:

Well into the post-Cold War era, what constitutes as the mainstream of world intellectual trendis cosmopolitanism or globalization, as embodied in“end of history”. Superficially, Euroskepticism or the resurgence of nationalism and even populism in individual European countries contributes to European disintegration. However, refugee crisis is the key to understanding the present political turn in Europe simply, because it is the major propelling force for the shift from cosmopolitan ideology as represented in globalization, both physical and metaphysical, to nationalism or rather populism, both of which feature anti-globalization. Furthermore, refugee crisis is the key to come to terms with the crisis of confifidence towards European Union both from Western Europe and Eastern Europe. It deserves our attention that, rather than nationalism, what plays a more inflfluential role in this crisis is identity crisis or identity politics intensifified by refugee crisis.
