Abstract:

A scrutiny of the Confucian classics society of the Qing Dynasty reveals that its philosophical ideas and spirit have considerably dimmed when compared to the traditional Chinese classics, as it remained entangled in textual analysis, chapters, and ancient books. However, if we take the “linguistic turn” of contemporary philosophy as the “other” that can be used as a mirror for the study of Confucian classics in the Qing Dynasty, then the study of classical literature in the Qing Dynasty not only deeply embodies the “empirical” spirit of contemporary semantics, but also aligns with the “practical” thinking of contemporary pragmatics, opening up a precedent for us to “dissolve metaphysics” in Chinese culture. At the same time, just as the contemporary “linguistic turn” was the result of the so-called “post philosophical culture”, the Qing and modern ancient literary movements, especially the modern Confucian movement, also made the arrival of the “post philosophical era”. With the dawning of a new era, a transformative paradigm shift emerges, transitioning from “embracing the void” to “pragmatism”, from“humanization” to “deification”, from “adhering to the ancient” to “embracing the present”, and from “prioritizing the classics” to “equally valuing all classics”. In summary, this marks a pivotal shift from an insular “pre-modernity” to an infinitely expansive “modernity”.
