Does “Brain Beauty” Exist from the Perspective of Neuroaesthetics——Reply to Professor Liu Xuguang

Abstract:

Professor Liu Xuguang focuses on neuroaesthetics and interprets neuroaesthetics from the perspective of aesthetic humanism. He believes that the activation of the medial orbitofrontal cortex of the aesthetic brain area indicates the pleasant sansation brought by formal pleasure, and the pleasure is from a physiological nerve stimulation, not our reason and emotion. According to the existing research results of neuroaesthetics, the activation of medial orbitofrontal cortex indicates that the aesthetic process from form to beauty is not a direct physiological reaction, but an aesthetic brain mechanism involving culture, meaning, memory, emotion, reasoning, judgment and other complex factors. The aesthetic experience is a kind of intellectual pleasure regulated by both sensibility and rationality.
